Dr. Brian Bouch

"My goal is to provide patients with the best that conventional and alternative medicine has to offer. At Hill Park Medical Center I seek to use my years of experience to offer treatment options not available in a conventional medical practice.

Skillfully integrating effective complementary therapies, such as acupuncture, nutritional medicine, bodywork, osteopathy and natural hormone therapies with cutting-edge conventional medicine has been my passion since 1988. My hope is that someday this kind of care will be available everywhere."

Dr. Baxter Bell

"I look back on my early years in Family medicine with a mixture of gratitude and frustration. Gratitude for the wonderful families who entrusted me with their health care, for the beneficial tools that Western medicine provides, and for the dedicated practitioners I have worked with. And frustration with the barriers that the same system created that made it difficult for me to have adequate time with my patients, with the limitations that medications and surgery have for many illnesses, and with the lack of hands-on treatment in Family practice.

It was with great excitement that I discovered medical acupuncture. It is gratifying for me professionally to integrate this treatment system into my Western knowledge of illness and health, and I believe it has been to my patient’s benefit."

"What most inspired me to become osteopathic physician was osteopathy’s uniquely effective hands-on approach to restoring the body to health.

The osteopathic goal is to establish the individual’s optimal state of wellness, regardless of his/her physical challenges or life circumstances, rather than simply responding to symptoms of dysfunction as they arise.  Osteopathic manipulative therapy (OMT) frees musculoskeletal impediments, healing the highly inter-dependent systems of the body.

I’ve come to see the crisis of pain as an opportunity to deepen one’s connection with the body; the effective treatment of pain can be a catalyst for lasting and profound lifestyle changes. I derive deep satisfaction knowing my osteopathic training allows me to provide a wide range of non-opiate, non-surgical treatments for chronic pain, empowering patients to return to and discover anew the activities they love."

Justin Cauntay, Osteopathic Physician and Family Practitioner, joins Hill Park Medical Center as a specialist in a broad range of non-surgical and natural treatments for pain.

He is a graduate of Touro University of Osteopathic Medicine and the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Family Medicine Residency in Santa Rosa. Prior to medical school, Dr. Cauntay had 15 years of experience in body-oriented therapies, including a private massage practice, specializing in the use of trigger point therapy and acupressure in the treatment of chronic musculoskeletal pain. He completed his undergraduate studies in Nutrition and Food Science at UC Berkeley and has worked as a Community Health Care Worker for the Berkeley Free Clinic, providing health care to the homeless and underserved. During his medical training, he specialized in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine as well as Family Practice and is completing Medical acupuncture training at the Stanford/ Helms Institute and prolotherapy at the University of Wisconsin.

While interested in the full spectrum of integrative medicine, his professional passion is to provide a broad range of non-surgical approaches to musculoskeletal pain that minimize dependence on opiates. He also has a particular interest in treating musculoskeletal pain stemming from pregnancy and delivery. His goal is to integrate the best that standard allopathic medicine can offer with clinically proven complementary methods such as osteopathic manipulation, acupuncture, craniosacral therapy, prolotherapy, trigger point therapy, mind-body techniques, and individualized nutrition and exercise programs.

Over a decade in the gentle martial art of Aikido has taught him efficiency of motion and energetic awareness which inform his approach to sports medicine. He lives in Sebastopol with his wife and children and enjoys practicing Aikido, surfing, and learning guitar.

Dr. Jacqueline Chan is an osteopathic physician who is practicing osteopathic manipulation at Hill Park Medical Center. She will be joining our natural pain relief team.

Osteopathic manipulation focuses on the principle that body structure and function are dependent on one another. When structure is altered via the musculoskeletal system, abnormalities occur in other body systems.  This, in turn, can produce restriction of motion, tenderness, tissue changes and asymmetry.

Dr. Chan's approach involves a combination of techniques:  muscle energy, counterstrain and cranial osteopathy. She most often applies cranial techniques in which the structure and fluid surrounding the central nervous system is enhanced thereby creating an initiating the body's inherent capacity to heal itself.

Jacqueline Chan, D.O., has ten years of experience in osteopathic manipulation and integrative medicine. Board Certified in Family Practice, Holistic Medicine, and Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine.

"You Can Read Every Health Magazine and Article About Nutrition on the Internet
and Still Have No Clue What YOUR BODY Actually Needs!

Health is our personal journey towards full self-expression in life.  It includes having the energy and vitality to do things we care about to the maximum extent we are physically capable.

As a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, I work with each woman to tap into her natural state of health and well-being and find ways to bring it forth into all areas of her life.

As a clinical nutritionist, I explore each person’s body chemistry and nutritional health through the use of laboratory testing. We design a nutritional plan that may include specific nutritional supplements, food as medicine, detoxification and specific lifestyle recommendations to restore chemical, nutrient and hormonal balance."

Amy compassionately walks people through the process of change as they begin to incorporate new health habits into their day to day lives, often achieving a life changing level of energy, vitality and confidence.

Renee Valentino

"As a doctor, I believe my primary duty is to simultaneously be knowledgeable and compassionate. I value the ability to be an ally and someone with whom to walk the healing path. My goal is to facilitate each person’s innate healing capacity using all available treatment options, both conventional and alternative.

"Western medical training teaches symptomatic diagnosis and disease management. However, in my experience our conventional system does not adequately address many people’s needs. I have seen that true health blossoms most fully when the treatment plan incorporates an awareness of the physical, emotional, and spiritual bodies. Thus, I strive to combine an integrative medical approach with compassion and intuition to help each patient transition from illness and uncertainty to a safer, more relaxed, and healthier place."

Joshua Margolis

"In my mind, treatment is an interactive process designed to unblock any mental, emotional, or physical obstacles to healing and to facilitate integrating those changes in my patients’ lives. Integrative medicine on the surface is the integration of complementary and mainstream medical practices. Healing, by it’s nature, is an integrative process, a movement away from chaos.

We commonly use the term "disorder" to describe illness. Dr. Still, the founder of osteopathy, said it beautifully a hundred years ago:
'To find health should be the object of the doctor. Anyone can find disease.'—Andrew Taylor Still, MD, 1899

"My passion for healing and compassion for people has made the practice of the ancient and time-tested therapies of Chinese Medicine a joy. I look forward to a lifetime of sharing the experience of well-being with my patients.

I am an advocate of 'practicing what you preach,' and that is reflected in my lifestyle, where healthful eating, exercise (such as dance or QiGong), low stress (whenever possible!), and mindfulness of one’s blessings are highly valued practices. I was born in California and live in Petaluma with my husband and five year old son, Max."

Along with her studies of acupuncture and herbs, she completed special studies in Pain Management, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Dermatology, and the movement therapies of TaiJiQuan, and QiGong.

She finds that the techniques used in Chinese Medicine, while being very effective at treating any and all types of acute or chronic pain, are also extremely useful in treating many other conditions. This includes all issues of Women’s Health (from PMS to fertility issues, pregnancy, and peri-menopausal symptoms), Men’s Health and Children’s Health.

Jennifer is also certified as a Massage Therapist, having studied the Chinese massage techniques (known as TuiNa) under the expert tutelage of Dr. Rocky Wang. To this, Jennifer also brings many years of study in the fields of Western herbalism, diet and nutrition, and an understanding that all of these modalities can be used together to create the best treatment plan for every individual patient.

Chinese medical theory asserts that there is a profound connection between mind, body, and spirit, and that, by extension, there is also a great interdependence between the individual and the surrounding environment. In order for an individual to thrive, there must be harmony among all of these aspects of one’s life. It is this essential harmony that Jennifer strives to help her patients find in themselves, through the gentle coaxing of acupuncture, simple exercises, lifestyle and dietary advice, natural supplements and individualized herbal formulas.

Jennifer Slaone

"I believe in the body's natural ability to be self healing and self regulating. I encourage my clients during their sessions to use their breath and their deep attention to track their experience and to discover their own innate healing abilities. My aim as a bodyworker is to treat the whole person.

I find massage therapy and bodywork to be very effective in relieving stress, chronic pain, healing injuries, and breaking up negative patterns in the body. Massage slows us down and focuses our attention inward. In this state it is possible to redirect our energies into more healthful patterns.

I am happy to be part of the healing team at Hill Park Meical Center and realize that healing takes place on many levels—physically, emotionally, spiritually. Through my experience I am able to see and understand what is going on in the underlying structures of the body. I strive to use my intuition which allows me to sense what is needed on a moment to moment basis."

“What I love about Chinese Medicine is that the idea of wholeness is individual and a changing concept that shifts based on where we can be with what we have now, it is described wonderfully in the book Five Spirits by Lorie Eve Dechar, 'Nothing is thrown out. Broken pieces are recombined to form new patterns of wholeness…the new wholeness is not something that is planned… it comes as a surprise that emerges as a kind of revelation. Like a kaleidoscopic image the new wholeness appears suddenly as the bits and pieces of our lives reorganize to form a completely new pattern.' "
